Hair: Twist Out.

I love the results of a good twist out! I was surprised that I could still do them after cutting my hair, again.

I’m not sure what it is that’s keeping me near the shears these days…okay, it’s the weather; definitely the weather! I remember when my hair was first “BC’d“; it was in June. I was super excited about having short hair in the summertime.

That was almost 3 years ago, and yet I still feel the same. Only now, I think having it cut into a shape, makes for “not much to do” in terms of daily “styling/maintenance”. I’m a big fan of that notion, year round! I’ve learned that I love my hair, but I don’t really love styling it. Having it cut more tapered seems to make the hair already “styled” (after cleaning & conditioning).

Sometimes, I just twist out the hair at the very top of my head, for additional height & an overall better tapered look (got a post coming up next for this)…but, here’s how I do a full twist out:

• Begin with clean, deep conditioned hair.
• Apply a leave-in conditioner & comb through to remove tangles.
• Use fingers to make a random part, grab a (about an inch) section of hair. Separate the section into 2 parts, then, slightly pulling each piece, wrap them around each other, going down the length of the hair, to make a twist. Here are more detailed instructions on how to twist.
• Continue to do this, until all the hair is twisted.

When I’m all done I let my hair air dry, usually overnight.

The next day, this is what it usually looks like.

I start unraveling the twists.

Since my hair is short, I like to draw my index finger right down the middle of a twist to undo it.

Next, I pull the ends of a few untwisted sections together (Oops…I missed one! LOL)

Using my hair pick, I like to comb through to lift the roots a little. This helps to disguise any parts.

All done!

Up close.

I like the looks of it better on the second, third…fourth day of wearing a twist out. It just starts to look more natural after I’ve slept on it. Love bed hair!

In these last two photos, my hair is shorter, because I trimmed it a few weeks ago. I’m loving it SO much! My hair is in the twist out style.

To maintain it, I mist my hair with water (sometimes I use a leave-in conditioner spray) in the A.M., and lift my roots using my fingers &/or hair pick. The steam from the shower does the rest. The fuzzier, the better to me. I don’t like my twist outs to be super defined.
