Confidence and Being.

A few of you have expressed interest in my experiences with personal growth, progresses with goals and such.

I’m happy to share with you and, hopefully get back to doing these types of posts more regularly. I see how they can help but…MAN, this was hard to write!

What began as a quick update, resulted in…something deeper.

Sharing where I am now (finally over the “mountain top”) kinda meant referring back to some stuff that affected me years and years ago (the “stones along the climb” up).

Feel free to share your thoughts, personal progresses and lessons learned too.

I’m all ears!

Room 090.

…continued from.

My friends and I turn down the narrow, florescent-lit hall.

We make it to class. It’s Chemistry. Or, Biology.

My friends aren’t my friends anymore. They’re just classmates.

Per usual, I don’t have my paper written and, it’s due today!

I realize, suddenly, I’ve also missed a crucial test. Then, the fact that I’ve actually missed a gang of classes. For what, I have no idea!

Thoughts and explanations flip through my mind. What can I say to my teacher? How do I ask for pardon?

Watching all my classmates get their graded test papers back, I feel this horrible, sinking feeling.

I’m going to fail.

And then, I wake up. Always.

Life Path.

Path in Life

Ever wonder how different you (and your life) would be if you weren’t your parents child? If you were maybe born to the couple in the next hospital room? Or, perhaps to parents in a different hospital in another city, state, or country?

When I think about this, it makes me believe stronger in the idea of having a predestined path in life.

One thing leads to another. And, it’s not always by choice.

There are several other things at the beginning (in birth) that are not of our choosing.

  • Gender.
  • Birth place.
  • Time period.

If you could in fact choose, would you want to?

The Lunch Line.

I dreamt I was going through the school lunch line.

Lunch was always served in the basement.

I proceed through the line, and in the middle of it, they are giving out free lingerie.

I can’t find a bra in my size so, I continue though the procession. Majorly disappointed. At the end, I wait for a friend who is excitedly going through the night gowns. She’d finished getting her food but, her tray is just sitting at the end of the line. I pick it up because, I’m overly concerned with germs and don’t want a gang of people passing over and by her food.

When I get outside the door, she is waiting for me. With her food tray!

I’d mistakenly picked up someone else’s. I turn around and go back in. Hand it to the girl whose tray it is. She’s waiting at the end of the line. She’s upset with me, saying “You touched my food! Why?!”. I calmly say to her, “I thought it was my friend’s”. Then, I turn away from her and walk back outside.

My friend is now with a group of friends. She says, loudly and with an attitude, “She can get another tray!”.
And, we all walk off.

We magically finish eating because, we don’t have trays any more. We’re now walking to Room 090. I run my fingers against the pistachio-colored wall, as we go. Lackadaisically. Talking about how we’d all kill zombies.

What did you dream last night?

Random Ramblings.

Trader Jacques Fleur De Sel Caramels

Sleep and dreams are really weird, when you really think about them. Lying down. Closing your eyes. Trusting–or maybe it’s just routine, since you’ve done it inherently since birth. For a nice stretch of time you’re not conscious of…anything happening (or not happening) directly around you. Dreams take you some place else. Unless, you sleep with your eyes opened! Then, sometimes, your dreams take place right there. In the same room with your sleeping self.

Life without Twitter and Facebook (and Instagram) has, so far, been very peaceful & nice. And, contrary to my wild imaginings, the Blog didn’t collapse & die on the day.

Trader Jacques’ Fleur De Sel Caramels.
So good! Not too salty. Not too sweet. Perfect caramel flavor. Soft, sticky chew. Thanks Crisa for recommending! I like to stick a piece (or three) in the freezer before devouring. They firm up a bit & come out of the wrapper easier.

I feel like I’ve been moving way too fast these days to fully grasp what is happening–what has happened. In terms of personal growth & perception. Goals & accomplishment. Being who you are. Confidence! I rarely blog about these things anymore, even though they were/are the roots of MerelyMarie.

The Great Sweet Potato Stalk.

Sweet Potato Sprout

So. I have this sweet potato in my kitchen.

When I bought it, it was a smooth, firm, and this deliciously bright orangey-red color.

A couple weeks later, it grew eyes.

A week or two more, the eyes started to grow something else. Stalks? Whatever they are, I’ve never seen this before. We’re curious to see how tall this thing can grow!

If planted outside, would it grow more sweet potatoes? Or, better yet, a humungous sweet potato stalk?! I like to imagine the latter. Growing as wide as a sequoia. Up, up, UP and into the clouds!

If you saw this in real-life (like in a forest preserve), would you climb up?

Are You Overwhelmed?

I read this very interesting article on NPR awhile ago.

It asks an intriguing question.

“Are you overwhelmed?”

Today, I felt a weight being lifted off of me as I deleted the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram apps from my cell phone. I was beginning to feel bogged-down by feeling the need to be “connected” everywhere. More than that, I think it was the 366 photos sitting on my phone’s camera roll. Patiently waiting to be “Instagrammed”.
I digress.

Can it be that it was all so simple then?

The article mentions the days when people didn’t worry or feel guilty about eating baloney & Wonder bread. Now we’re all “horty-torty”, shopping at the farmer’s market (well–that’s the general notion I got from reading it)! It also said that we simply have too many options, are exposed to way too much information, and feel like we need to perfect every aspect of our lives; and, that’s why we feel overwhelmed these days.

Do you agree? What is making you feel overwhelmed?
