It’s taco night. You have everything mise en place to cook. Except, someone forgot to pick up a packet of taco seasoning.
No worries. No need to put off taco night or head to the grocery store because, chances are you already have these ingredients in your kitchen cabinet to whip up your own taco seasoning.
Let’s get into this spice mix…
Here is the recipe: (adapted from food.com, by Kittencal)
Taco Seasoning Spice Mix
(equals one packet of store-bought taco seasoning)
2 tablespoons mild chili powder
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon paprika
2 1/2 teaspoons cumin
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 pinch cayenne pepper (optional)
• Combine all spices well, and use as you would regular taco seasoning
My husband likes this better than the store-bought spice packets. He says it has more punch/flavor. I think it’s pretty good too.
I’ve tried adding the tomato sauce, as suggested in the original recipe. I like it better without. It tasted more like chili meat, than taco. Still, I like the idea of adding dried granulated tomato powder to the mix to balance out the flavors and add that tomato-y element that most store-bought taco seasonings have.
