Seche Vite has been my favorite top coat for years.
Unfortunately, it seems the formula has changed. I opened a brand new bottle, and the liquid was pretty thick.
It used to be that the formula would gradually thicken over time, with use (at least, half-way through the bottle).
Out The Door was recommended to me on a trip to Sally Beauty. I picked up a bottle, and thought, why not have a top coat face off?!
- Dry Time. Well…it seemed they took about the same amount of time to dry. Out The Door definitely didn’t live up to it’s label claims: “dries in seconds”. Yeah, right! I’d say, it took at least 5-10 minutes before I could touch it without leaving an imprint.
- Shine. I honestly couldn’t tell which was shinier. They looked about the same after application & dry time. But, after switching between these two top coats for a couple of months, I’d say Seche Vite has the longer lasting shine (over 1 weeks time).
- Formula. Out The Door was definitely thinner & easier to apply.
There’s no clear (get it?!) winner here. I still like Seche Vite, and don’t think I’d repurchase Out The Door. I’ve been thinking about trying Poshe, when I’m done with these. If you wear it, how is the formula, shine, dry time?
What’s your staple top coat?

I just recently purchased my first bottle of top coat in YEARS lol. I grabbed the Sally Hansen dual top and base coat. I’m kind of a newb when it comes to polish lol. The only polishes I own I’ve gotten from birchboxes or giveaways. I’ve got to step my game up lol
I just bougth Pro FX top coat from Walmart and I love it! I have tried many top coats and this is my new favourite.
Pro Fx is my new favourite top coat. It is super cheap @ Walmart and I am very happy with it.
I love Seche Vite! I tried Out The Door as well. They should really change the name of that stuff to ‘Staying In For Bit While These Nails Dry’. Pffft…
To me, Poshe is right up there with Seche Vite. My sister thinks that Poshe drys faster, but I don’t see a huge difference. They are both great products.
Thanks for sharing your favorites ladies!
I will have to keep an eye out for these…
LOL That is so true Brit!
I liked sechevite until I discovered pro fx quick dry top coat from.walmart, its only five bucks and it come in a really big 2.5 oz bottle, that’s like five small bottles. It will last for about a week if you make sure that you apply it around the very top edge of your nails to keep water out, I also apply an extra coat on the second day, the shine is amazing, I tried out the door and it makes the polish run off on the brush, this pro fx is my new alternative to sechevite, seche works very well on my toes will last for 2weeks or longer but doesn’t last but 2 days on my fingernails but profx is the bomb on my fingernails it abosolutely make my beautiful ring and bracelet look even more beautiful with my amazing manicure
Sweet! I’ve recently picked up a bottle. Thanks for commenting!
I use the Out the Door top coat and I swear by it ! I have Nicole’ by OPI & Sally Hansen top coat which both gives horrible air bubbles , takes longer to dry and both can’t stand near to the quality of the OTD . I luv the fact that it goes on smooth .Used it so much til the bottle was near empty in 2 months – lol! I ‘m not a person who hops on brand bandwagons and in my opinion spending more isn’t always the better thing – plus Seche Vite is expensive for someone like me who changes up their polish color every 3 days .
Cool! Thanks for commenting.
