There are times in the kitchen when improvisation is somewhat required.
At these times (Ex: you just woke up, crumpled-faced & starving, and can not even fathom the idea of going outside the house to run to the grocery store for milk), substitutions must be made and fast. Margarine for Butter, Half & Half for Milk, or Whole Wheat “sandwich” Bread for Texas Toast. I made the wheat bread substitution one time to make some french toast, and have yet to look back.
The key is to work fast, as the sandwich bread is more fragile than the thicker Texas toast.
